FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

-How does the laser work?

Our 45 watt laser works almost like a printer. After we have prepared a file, we send it with programmed settings from the computer to the laser. Our laser is composed of a 45 watt CO2 laser cartridge and a robotic arm which moves on an x and y axis. The laser beam is sent from the cartridge to the material through a serious of mirrors and lenses. Depending on the material being cut or engraved, we have control over what power and speed to cut at, ensuring the best possible outcome. When the laser reaches the material surface, it cuts, engraves, or marks it with extraordinary precision.

-What is the difference between vector and raster?

A vector graphic is made up of paths, or lines, that are either straight or curved. A raster graphic is an array of pixels which together form an image. Vector images can be scaled to be very large without losing quality, while raster graphics, on the other hand, become "blocky," since each pixel increases in size as the image is made larger.

-What style of artwork is best?

This depends on your project, but generally speaking crisp, clean lines will read best. Designs with high contrast will be the most successful for engraving. Under our design services, we will gladly transfer raster files into vector and vice versa.

-What format should my artwork be in?

Check here. If you have further questions, please contact us.

-How much does it cost?

Pricing is per project and includes laser-running time. A set-up fee applies to most orders. To minimize extra costs, follow these file preparation guidelines. For orders of $100 or more, a 50% deposit is due when the order is placed, unless otherwise discussed.

-Is there a minimum order?

We have a minimum laser order of $50, which includes the set-up fee. Design services and delivery are not included.

-What is the turnaround time?

It will depend on your project and how busy we are. Most small orders will be completed within 1-2 days.

-Do you offer proofs?

Yes. All proofs will be charged at the project rate, and do require the order set-up fee.

-Does laser engraving on my personal electronic device void my warranty?

Etching and marking on most devices is considered cosmetic, and will not affect its performance or durability, though it is always best to check your manufacturer’s warranty. For Apple products, go here: http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/.
